The parents of Main Street Elementary held the first Santa Snack Shop on Wednesday at the school to show their appreciation for everything that administrators, teachers and other staff members do for students, said Chauntee Pringle, president of the school's Parent Teacher Organization.

“I’m just overwhelmed because nobody said no when I called them and asked them (to help),” she said.

Also involved were Parent Teacher Organization officials Elnita Singletary, vice president; Shameka Brown, treasurer; and Teresa McFadden, secretary, as well as Idell Singletary, Cynthia McFadden and Yvonne McFadden.

The event included grass skirts and leis to fit its “Santa visits Hawaii” theme.

In addition to the snacks, parents also gave the school staff members “survival kits,” which included such items as a bandage to remind them to help heal hurt feelings and an eraser to remind them that everyone makes mistakes.

Pringle plans for the Santa Snack Shop to become an annual event at the school, she said.
