Charities, nonprofit organizations, agencies, students and volunteers are working hard to meet the goal of helping others during the holidays. The contributions are not only monetary. Time is also given, along with creativity, craftsmanship, food and clothing. Including the gift of song.
The Palmetto Alumni Diamonds paid a visit to the Mullins Nursing Home Saturday, singing Christmas carols to residents on the second and third floor of the facility.
The group of over 20 young ladies that are students of Palmetto Middle School song several songs a canella and greeted each resident before leaving.
Just days before, Mullins High School art students were decorating windows for businesses along Main Street.
Marion County Department of Social Services is working on their annual “Christmas Stocking Project,” which gives individuals, churches, business and organizations the opportunity to brighten the holiday season for the numerous children, low income families and elderly served by the agency.
McCormick Elementary School had a successful Manna House Food Drive Nov. 9 – 20, collecting more than 550 canned and dry food items.
Manna House is a local agency that provides assistance and support to the homeless, poor and needy with services contributing toward their independence and stability.
With 78 cans, Sylvia McFarland's fourth grade class collected the most canned food items, earning a pizza party provided by Bi-Lo and Manna House in recognition of their efforts.
During this time of year is known as the season of giving. So much factors into why so many are in need of a helping hand. We hope residents in the area continue contribute gifts no matter the cost.
