Safe Kids Florence, led by McLeod Health, will host a free car seat check with a new quarterly bicycle rodeo Thursday in the Florence Kohl’s parking lot, 3041 W. Radio Drive.
The car seat check will be from 4 to 6 p.m., with the rodeo from 4 to 5 p.m. Children are encouraged to bring their bicycle and safety gear to practice wheel safety. Free children’s helmets will be available while supplies last.
Safe Kids offers a car seat check the third Thursday of each month at this same time and location. In the case of inclement weather, the event will be canceled.
Each car seat technician follows a child passenger safety checklist of car seat qualifications to ensure the safety of children. The technician will determine if a new child safety seat is needed. If so, one per family is available while supplies last. Child safety seats are funded by Kohl’s Cares for Kids.
Certified car seat technicians will be on site checking proper installation of car seats, correcting those in need, and educating caregivers on proper car seat installation and use. Participants must have both car seat and child present. Expecting parents are asked to bring a car seat.
Safe Kids Florence works to prevent accidental childhood injury, the leading killer of children 14 and under. It is a member of Safe Kids Worldwide, a global network of organizations dedicated to preventing accidental injury.
