A local non-profit organization opened a new shop in The Market Common on Sunday.

The store is called Katie’s Closet and is named after the organization “Katie’s Project.”

The group focuses on providing formal wear and accessories to high school girls who might not otherwise be able to afford it.

Katie’s Closet has prom dresses, shoes, jewelry, and other formal accessories.

While some of the merchandise is up for sale, most of it is given away.

"Basically the mission of Katie's Project is to help students who can't afford the cost of going to prom with the ticket prices and the cost of a dress and everything else, its a very expensive venture,” Sarah George, Katie’s Project Director said. “So, we're here to relieve some of that stress and provide them with the dresses and formal accessories they need to go. So that’s our mission."
