Through a grant from Black Creek Arts Council (BCAC) the library now has a mural by Hartsville artist Patz Fowle in the children’s story time area. The friends of the library purchased the supplies and assisted Fowle as she worked. BCAC funded her artistic abilities.
The Hartsville Library is also thrilled with the new addition and is planning an evening gathering for the public and the artist in January.
A family blockbuster movie will be shown in the community room 4 p.m. Tuesday and another film on Jan. 5. These events are open to the public free of charge

Nanny Returns by Emma McLaughlin
Nan revisits 721 Park, home of the moneyed but morally bankrupt , and the boy she guiltily left behind in their inept care in this smart and sassy sequel to "The Nanny Diaries.” Though Nan has grown up a bit, married “Harvard Hottie” Ryan and traveled the world, the plight of the rich and stupid continues, as does Nan’s new crusade to save former charge Grayer and his younger brother Stilton, renovate a crumbling East Harlem mansion and stick it out at a soulless Manhattan private school. Outcomes are deeply uncertain, though Nan is nothing if not a natural-born cheerleader.
Saving Cicadas by Nicole Seitz.
This beguiling, inspirational family-first tale from Lowcountry native Seitz, follows the revelatory and haunting journey of a single mother from South Carolina who discovers she's pregnant and needs to clear her head to plan her next step. Priscilla Lynn Macy quits her job and hits the road with her daughters, Rainey Dae, 17, who has Down syndrome, and Janie Doe, her precocious 8-year-old. Grandma Mona's in the backseat with her husband, Poppy Grayson. Janie's and Grandma Mona's perspectives on Priscilla's situation invigorate Seitz's story as Priscilla looks for Harlan Bradfield, Janie's dad, who took off one day on his motorcycle. The tribe ends up at the Macy ancestral home in Forest Pines, where Priscilla reconnects with her half-brother, Pastor Fritz Rosier, who helps her make peace with past mistakes and to decide about the future.
