This week is a pretty significant one for me. Thursday I will be celebrating my birthday and in the next two weeks gearing up for another “Holly Jolly Christmas.”
Then the week following will be a toast to the New Year. That’s a ton of celebrating in a short time but it’s the reason why this is my favorite time of the year and December babies have the most fun.
In all honesty, this past year has been full of varying experiences. I’m appreciative for new opportunities, responsibilities, friendships and challenges.
However, I’ve been dealing with more than a fair share of challenges.
However, during this holiday season no matter how tough the times may be, nothing can be done to put a damper on my Christmas cheer.
This past weekend Marion County celebrated the Christmas season with parades in downtown Mullins and Marion, including a number of activities.
A remembrance tree was dedicated to former Mullins Mayor Kenneth McDonald during the annual Christmas Tree Lighting Celebration on Sunday after the annual Tour of the Churches. The special dedication was a kind gesture to the McDonald family and shows appreciation for his contributions.
It’s always awesome to see just about the entire community participate in the festivities, as a number individuals took part in the parade and volunteers put in long hours to organize a successful run of events.
Main Street Marion displayed the artwork of local artist, while a number of children enjoyed pictures with Santa, an old fashion hayride and dazzling fireworks show.
With all the challenges, obstacles and sacrifices to be made during the holiday season never lose sight of what this time of year is all about. For me it will be enjoying another year’s end with family, working hard to finish strong in anticipation of better things to come in 2010 and being thankful for the gifts I cherish the most.
I’ll be wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, so in the meantime enjoy the season and make the most out the remaining days of 2009.
