Two teen girls died Thursday night in a crash in Marlboro County, Marlboro County Coroner Tim Brown said.

Nifasha Estella, 14, and her 12-year-old relative, Fitina Adeline, died at the scene of the crash on Hebron Dunbar Road, about five miles south of Clio, Brown said.

The crash happened just before 5 p.m. The driver, a 21-year-old Dillon man, lost control of a van with seven people aboard as it was rounding a curve, S.C. Highway Patrol Cpl. Paul Brouthers said.

The vehicle ran off the right side of the road and overturned, Brouthers said, and the girls were ejected.

Authorities who responded to the scene said they believe the driver and the passengers were all relatives who moved from Tanzania to the Pee Dee about a month ago, Brown said.

The five survivors were taken to an area hospital for treatment, he said.

The crash remains under investigation by the highway patrol.
