A memorial service was held Friday in honor of the one-year anniversary death of “Baby Boy Horry.”
Baby Horry was found, dead, Dec. 4, 2008 in woods on Meadowbrook Drive in Horry County, off of Highway 544.
Several of the people who came out to today's memorial at Hilcrest Cemetery in Conway placed flowers and sympathetic letters at Baby Boy Horry's grave site where he was buried.
Pastor Wayne Brown led a service filled with spiritual messages, prayer, and songs, to help people reflect on this case.
horry County Deputy Coroner Chris Burroughs helped organize the memorial and along with the Horry county police department, has spent time looking into this case.
Burroughs says the investigation is still open but growing cold.
“Any time there's a life that's taken that's you know, is untimely, it certainly sticks with you but something like this where a child never had a chance to live...we look for our parents to take care of us in our early years and it didn't happen in this case,” said Burroughs.
Investigators do not know who left the baby in a box; but said he had already died when utility workers found him.
They said the boy was found in a limited-edition Bath and Body Works tote bag, which was inside a box.
A funeral was held for Baby Horry Dec. 18, 2008 at Hilcrest; about 100 people from the community attended. The Horry County Coroner’s office raised enough money to purchase a memorial headstone for the baby boy.
Authorities said earlier this year they now have a DNA profile for the baby but have not identified suspects.
Police said there were no visible injuries on the infant, and no cause of death has been released.
Anyone with information on this case is asked to call Horry County police or leave an anonymous message by calling (843) 915-TIPS.
