Wednesday crash kills one at US 17 Bypass and SC 544

Emergency crews remain on the scene of a deadly crash Wednesday morning on the U.S. 17 Bypass near the S.C. 544 intersection by Surfside Beach.

A head-on crash in the northbound lanes of U.S. 17 Bypass near the S.C. 544 interchange killed one person early Wednesday morning.

Deputy Coroner Chris Burroughs identified the victim as Barrianne Deas, 57, of the Sampit community in Georgetown. He said she died at the scene of the incident from multipe trauma injuries. Deas was wearing a seatbelt.

Lynne Slay, 37, was driving south in the northbound lanes when her car ran into another at 4:45 a.m. just north of the S.C. 544 interchange, S.C. Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Sonny Collins said.

Slay has been charged with felony DUI according to the SCHP.

The crash snarled morning rush hour traffic.

The patrol’s Multi-Disciplinary Accident Investigation Team is continuing its investigation of the crash, Collins said.
