Darlington man dies in Florence crash

A Darlington man died Tuesday following a multi-vehicle crash near U.S. 52 and Interstate 95 in Florence County.

Charles Christopher Cameron, 34, was pronouced dead at the scene, Florence County Coroner M.G. “Bubba” Matthews said.

Cameron was the driver of a Ford pickup truck, one of three vehicles invovled in the crash, Matthews said. His truck was carrying two passengers.

It happened at about 7:30 p.m. at North Cashua Drive and U.S. 52 when a driver crashed into the back of a car preparing to make a right turn onto Cashua from U.S. 52, according to S.C. Highway Patrol reports.

In additon to rear-ending the turning vehicle, the driver of the car veered to the right and stuck Cameron’s vehicle, according to highway patrol reports.

At least one person from one of the other vehicles was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

Troopers with the Highway Patrol’s Multi-Disciplinary Accident Investigation Team, or MAIT, are still investigating the crash.
