Myrtle Beach man cited for having hyena settles case

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) - A South Carolina man cited for having a hyena in his backyard has agreed not to bring the animal back to his home as part of an agreement that drops charges against him.

The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reported Thursday that charges against Nicolas Petock will be dropped as long as he doesn't bring the animal back inside the Myrtle Beach city limits.

The hyena named Bubbles is now up for sale.

Petock was charged with owning and displaying a wild or exotic animal after police went to his home in March and saw the animal.

It had been housed in a chain link pen that had a dog house in the center.

Ads for Bubbles have been placed in zoo magazines. Experts say Hyenas are worth about $4,000.
