Plans to relocate people living in 40 public housing units in Atlantic Beach were discussed at the city's housing board meeting earlier this week.
A spokeswoman with the Atlantic Beach Housing Authority says the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development says it's not feasible to have people live in the units.
Some people who live in the complex are not thrilled with the plans.
"I love it here. I mean it's a quiet nice area,” said Sedina Alston.
Alston does not want to leave the public housing units off 30th avenue in Atlantic Beach.
As a result of the city's plans to demolish the complex, she may not have a choice.
"Because everybody has to find a new place to live and it's hard. You know, especially with the economy today and especially with kids going back to school. They go back Monday. So relocation will be difficult," Alston said.
If the housing complex is demolished, some older residents who have lived in the units for many years will be impacted too.
Alston says she'll also suffer if the plans are carried out.
She works in maintenance at Barefoot Landing. Having to relocate may mean she'll have to pay for transportation and will lower her income.
A spokeswoman with the Atlantic Beach Housing Authority says, if the project to demolish the housing units is carried out, the projected plan is to move people out by March of 2010.
Those plans include providing residents with vouchers and support in finding to places to live.
"We are aware of everything that's going on. So it's not really a forced issue," said Alston.
