NORTH MYRTLE BEACH —The bishop of the statewide Roman Catholic Diocese of Charleston presented fire suits to North Myrtle Beach firefighters who helped battle a devastating wildfire earlier this year.
Bishop Robert E. Guglielmone made the presentation of five fire suits on Saturday at the Barefoot Resort Fire Station.
The bishop attended the groundbreaking for a new Catholic church in another section of the city.
Seven families from Our Lady Star of the Sea lost their homes in the April fires that destroyed about 75 homes and caused about $25 million in damages.
The bishop visited the fire scene shortly after the blaze.
Later on in the day, the bishop visited the new school building at the Holy Trinity Catholic Education Center in Longs.
The bishop was also honored at the church in the complex of the education center.
