On behalf of the Town of Nichols, Mayor Lawson Battle presented a commemorative plague and gavel to retired municipal Judge Gordon Elliott for 11 years of service.
“He was a great help to the town,” Battle said.
Elliott operates Nichols Transport, a company he has owned for over 28 years.
Town council member Michael Elliott said he was proud of the job his father did as municipal judge.
“I just figured I’d retire from both,” Elliott said, spending more time with his wife Kathleen. Elliott is a father of two with one grandchild.
New Judge William Causey took the helm in August and said he’s excited about the opportunity.
Judge Causey is a resident of Nichols and real estate agent with Swamp Fox Realty for the past 12 years and is the father of a four-year old daughter. Causey is a license real estate broker and appraiser, he said and has been busy with judicial training classes but ready to move forward.
Battle said the town also has two new police officers in Eric Walters and Kenny Ammons Jr.
“I thank those officers also for the hard work they put in on the job,” Mayor Battle said.
Chief Robert Bullard took the helm as Chief of Police on Jan. 9.
Nichols also has a new town clerk in Jerri Turbeville.
“I just love it over here, the people are just wonderful,” she said of her six months on the job.
