Lake City police said a man wanted in connection with a convenience store robbery last week turned himself in Wednesday night after he saw a story aired on News13.
Tonto Edwards, 31, of 318 Scott St., Lake City is charged with armed robbery, Florence County Detention Center booking reports show.
The robbery happened about 2:30 a.m. Aug. 11 at the Shell Station on the corner of Main Street and Ronald McNair Boulevard, Lt. Roger Tilton said.
The robber pointed a gun at the clerk then instructed the clerk and two customers who were in the store to “get down.” He then demanded money from the cash register then fled the store with an undisclosed amount of money. No one was injured during the robbery, Tilton said.
In 2003, Edwards pleaded guilty to an accessory to murder charge and was out of prison when the robbery occurred.
