DARLINGTON -- The Darlington County Sheriff's Office has a new weapon to fight domestic violence.
The State Department of Public Safety awarded the Sheriff's Office 24 new, 10-megapixel digital cameras for use on Criminal Domestic Violence cases.
Deputies use the cameras to photograph victims and document evidence at the scene. Officers say the new cameras are an upgrade from the ones they've used in the past. They say the addition of so many new ditigal cameras makes fighting crime a little easier.
"We just couldn't afford to buy digital cameras for every officer, every first responder out on the road," Sheriff Wayne Byrd said. "This will allow us to put a digital camera in the hands of every first responder."
Authorities say if you or someone you know has been a victim of domestic violence, you should contact your local law enforcement agency.
