With such issues as unemployment and inadequate health care looming over our heads the importance of self-responsibility often gets swept under the carpet.
Often times Americans forget about the fundamental importance of their decisions when taking advantage of the many opportunities that lie before them. When our forefathers designed our government to be of the people, by the people, and for the people; they never aspired for it to be all things to all people.
America is the land of opportunities. Even during our very real economic crisis people flock to our borders. However, lately it seems that Americans tend to overindulge of these opportunities. I am in no way referring to the hardworking individuals living pay check to pay check barely scraping by to put food on their families tables.
I am referring to those of us who try to get as many possessions as possible living well outside our means. It seems that Americans are too reliant on possessions for comfort and entertainment. I often wonder what happened to the days when family’s actually spent a good amount of quality time with each other. Real conversations and time have been replaced by social media networking.
It would be safe to say that we Americans have lost control of our financial matters, many in an attempt to keep up with the Jones. Many take big risks by spending much more than they can afford to pay back. This nation as a whole needs to revert back to the days when personal responsibility actually meant something. It is past time for us to get back in touch with the basics that our forefathers envisioned.
