A Florence man was arrested Friday after deputies said he gave a 15-year-old girl marijuana before and after having sex with her, Florence County Sheriff’s Capt. Mike Nunn said.
Joshua Maurice Close, 29, of 3024 TV Road, Room 224, is charged with second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor under the age of 16 and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, Florence County Detention Center booking reports show. He remains in custody at the jail in Effingham.
It happened Aug. 3 after the suspect picked the victim up from a dirt road and took her to a motel. Deputies said he gave the girl marijuana before he had sex with her and then gave her more after the act, Nunn said.
Criminal sexual conduct with a minor is a felony punishable by imprisonment for not more than 20 years according to the discretion of the court, Nunn said. Contributing to the delinquency of a minor is punishable by a fine of not more than $3000 and/or imprisonment for not more than three years, also at the discretion of the court.
