Richard Carroll “Bunky” McRae
Marion - Richard Carroll “Bunky” McRae, 82, died Sunday, July 26, 2009 in his home after an extended illness. Funeral Services were at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 28, at Marion Baptist Church. Burial followed at Rose Hill Cemetery, directed Richardson Funeral Home.
Mr. McRae was born in Marion, a son of the late Lamar and Annie Richardson McRae. His is also predeceased by his sisters, Evelyn Edwards, Boyd Cottingham, and Frances Cribb. Mr. McRae was a veteran of the US Army, having served in Japan during WWII. He was manager for the Ammons IGA Foodliner for 48 Years. Mr. McRae was a member of Marion Baptist Church as well as the Men’s Prayer Breakfast.
Surviving are his wife, Annette Martin McRae of the home, son, Richard L. McRae and his wife, Sherry, of Fort Mill, SC., daughter, Teresa M. McCormick and her husband, Jimmy of Marion, and Gilda M. Sanders and her husband, Wilson of Florence, brother, Homer Lamar McRae of Marion, eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Mary Frances Johnson Shelley
Marion - Mary Frances Johnson Shelley, 80, died Wednesday, July 29, 2009 in Marion County Medical Center after an extended illness. Funeral Services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 31, at Reedy Creek Baptist Church. Burial followed in the Church Cemetery directed by Richardson Funeral Home.
Mrs. Shelley was born December 23, 1928, in Galivants Ferry, the daughter of the late William Stanley Johnson and Annie Lou Murrow Johnson. She is also predeceased by a son, Stuart Shelley, grandchildren, Kyle and Lindsey Shelley, brother, William “Bill” Stanley Johnson, Jr., and a sister, Sallie Johnson Graham. Mrs. Shelley was a member of Reedy Creek Baptist Church and graduate of Aynor High School.
Surviving are her husband, Bernie Shelley of Marion, sons, Wayne Johnson of Marion, Stanley Shelley and his wife Gay, of Columbia, and Scott Shelley of Florence, a brother, Palmer Johnson and his wife, Nora, of Laurinburg, NC, a sister Ruby Johnson Fowler and her husband R.B., of Laurinburg, NC., and a grandchild, Caleb Shelley, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff and nurses at Marion Nursing Center for their loving care.
Mullins - Ruth Waldrop Griffie died Saturday, Aug. 1, 2009 in Mullins Nursing Center in Mullins.
She was born May 16, 1913 in Gastonia, N.C., where she resided until 2002 when her health declined. Mrs. Griffie was the daughter of the late Willis G. and Emeline Hill Waldrop. She owned and operated Classic Beauty Shop in Gastonia for over 45 years and was a member of First Baptist Church in Gastonia.
She was the widow of John Robert “Bob” Griffie.
Surviving Mrs. Griffie are 2 sons, Jerry R. Griffie and his wife Bobbie Jean of Columbus, N.C., Mike Griffie and his wife Jean of Marion, a sister, Jean W. Sisk of Gastonia, N.C., 5 grandchildren, a step-grandson, and 8 great grandchildren.
Funeral Services were at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 3 at McLean Funeral Home, 700 S. Hope Rd. Gastonia, N.C. Burial followed in Gaston Memorial Park.

Mary Elizabeth “Bessie” West Todd
Marion - Mary Elizabeth “Bessie” West Todd, 87, died Saturday, Aug. 1, 2009 in her home after an extended illness. Funeral Services were at 1 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 3, 2009 at Marion Baptist Church. Graveside services followed at 3 p.m. at Hlllcrest Cemetery, directed by Richardson Funeral Home.
Mrs. Todd was born in Horry County, a daughter of the late Doc C. West and Trizzie Hardee West. She is also predeceased by husband, Roy Todd, and brothers, Eddie C. West, and Frederick B. West Mrs. Todd was a member of Marion First Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School Teacher and member of Fidelis Euzelian Sunday School Class. She taught school in Horry county and Marion School District 1. Mrs. Todd was a Conway High School graduate, earned her degree at Winthrop University, and did her graduate work at Francis Marion University.
Surviving are her sons, Roy Todd, Jr., and his wife Mary of Florence, Stephen Randolph Todd and his wife, Candice of Birmingham, AL., daughters, Linda Todd Coleman and her husband , Bill of Winston-Salem, N.C., Carolyn Todd McIntyre and here husband, Bob of Conway, a brother, Clyde West of Conway, 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
The family would like to send a special thank you to special caregivers, Lean McFadden, Bobbie McCormick, Beulah Johnson, and Addie Pendergrass.
