Two Hartsville men are now members of the Florence-Darlington County Commission for Technical Education after being appointed by the legislative delegations of Florence and Darlington counties, officials at Florence-Darlington Technical College (FDTC) announced this week.
The commissioners oversee Florence-Darlington Technical College.
Retired Darlington County educator Dr. Al Heatley and Hartsville attorney Chip Auman were introduced to the rest of the commission at a recent board retreat at the Southeastern Institute of Manufacturing and Technology.
Until his retirement, Heatley served as an administrator for Darlington County schools and was principal of Rosenwald Elementary/Middle School in Society Hill. He is a Hartsville native and graduate of Butler High School. Heatley earned his undergraduate degree in 1961 from South Carolina State University and received his Master’s Degree from Winthrop University in 1985. He completed his doctoral degree from the University of Akron in 1997.
Heatley resides in Hartsville with his wife, Dorothy.
Fred Wilton Auman III is known as Chip in the Hartsville community and practices law with the firm of Lucas, Auman, Warr and White. Auman was born and raised in Darlington and graduated from St. John’s High School in 1979. He has lived and worked in Hartsville for over 20 years. Auman received his undergraduate degree from Presbyterian College in 1983 and earned a law degree from the University of South Carolina Law School two years later.
