FLORENCE — The Wal-Mart Foundation presented a $15,000 check Tuesday to HopeHealth to assist the organization in its community outreach efforts.
Carl Humphries, CEO of HopeHealth, said the money will be a great help to the clinic which sees many people in throughout the Pee Dee.
“We committed to expanding our health center and, through the funds that are coming to us through Wal-Mart, we want to reach out to folks in the community who need primary health care,” he said.
The gift will allow HopeHealth to continue to make progress informing the Pee Dee about its community health aspect and the pharmacy inside the new HopeHealth building on East Palmetto Street, Humphries said.
“We just want to spread the word about our center and the services we are providing,” he said. “We’re still trying to reach the community with the message that we’re providing primary health care to anybody who needs it.”
So far, Humphries said, HopeHealth is seeing 25 to 30 new patients each week since moving to the new location.
“It will probably soon be even more than that with this funding and with adding a physician in the summer,” he said.
La-Keisha Jennings, store manager for Wal-Mart SuperCenter No. 630 in Florence, said it’s always an honor for her to present checks to local community programs such as HopeHealth.
“We’re sort of in the community so to actually be able to participate in the community is an honor, a thrill,” she said.
Jennings said it feels good to give back to others in the region.
“We really look forward to doing things like this,” she said. “One of the funnest parts of my job is doing things like this.”
The money was made available to HopeHealth through the Wal-Mart Foundation, which supports community based programs that provide help in areas such as: education, workforce development, environmental sustainability and in health and wellness.
HopeHealth serves people throughout the Pee Dee and beyond, with three locations in the state in Florence, Orangeburg and Aiken.
