MURRELLS INLET - For thirteen years, Belin Methodist Church in Murrells Inlet has hosted the annual “Blessing of the Inlet” on the first Saturday of May. This year’s event will be no different. The saying, “See ‘Ya Saturday”, can be heard throughout the Grand Strand in anticipation of all of the food, fun, and fellowship that comes with this year’s event.
In the wake of two wildfires that scorched nearly 20,000 acres in Horry and Georgetown counties, this year’s event will also help benefit the American Red Cross and the victims of the fires.
According to a news release, throughout the day, visitors will be able to stop and visit with the Red Cross to make financial donations for the area fire victims.
The booth will be located near the Murrells Inlet/Garden City fire trucks.
Also, during the annual “Blessing of the Inlet” Ceremony at 11:30 a.m., there will be a special love offering for the families affected by the recent fires.
“It is only fitting for the hands and feet of Christ to step up and help out in a time like this. Belin Methodist, the ‘Blessing of the Inlet’, along with many Murrells Inlet/Garden City communities continue to pray for the fire victims,“ said Belin’s senior pastor, Rev. Dr. Mike Alexander in the release. “The teamwork between the Red Cross, the Murrells Inlet/Garden City Fire Department and Rescue, and Belin is what the ‘Blessing of the Inlet’ is all about: creating a day to give back to the community and to rejoice and fellowship with each other; celebrating the love of our Savior Jesus Christ.“
