The 2009 Marion Foxtrot Festival kicked off this past weekend with its 7th annual horse show.
The family fun setting had a new home at the Carolina Entertainment Complex on U.S. Highway 501. A few hundred people watched some of the area’s best riders compete. Under clear skies, participants competed in over 20 events, such as the Pepsi Race, Buddy Pick-up, Open Arena and Egg N Spoon race. There was even a special stick horse race of the kids and several events for amateurs.
One of the events organizers, Vicki Johnston, said she felt the horse show brought some excitement for spectators at the complex and the scheduling worked out for everyone, allowing experienced riders familiar with competition a chance to participate for fun.
Sherrie Flowers provided the highlights as announcer. Johnston said a number of individuals provided support to make the show a success. Special thanks, she said, goes to Alex Johnston, Jeff Martin, Donna Dean, Larry Hunsucker, Debbie Collins, B&B Stables, Debbie Collins, Kenny McCracken, Allen Ammons & the Marion Fire Department, Marion Rescue Squad, Donald Bryant, Ronnie Sanders, Rick Johnson and owners of the Carolina Entertainment Complex.
The FoxTrot Festival, the city of Marion's annual festival, will be Friday night and Saturday, May 15 and 16.
