Deloris Edwards of Marion has been selected as the S.C. Department of Disabilities and Special Needs 2008 Employee of the Year.
The award is presented annually to DDSN’s most outstanding employee for the previous year. She has worked at DDSN's Pee Dee Center for 13 years. Edwards, a human services assistant, was chosen from over 2,500 DDSN employees at its regional centers in Clinton, Columbia, Florence, Hartsville and Summerville. Earlier, she was selected as 2008 Employee of the Year for DDSN's Pee Dee Center in Florence.
DDSN is the state agency that provides services to South Carolinians with the severe, lifelong disabilities of mental retardation and related disabilities, autism, spinal cord injury and traumatic brain injury.
The Commission for the SC Department of Disabilities and Special Needs presented the prestigious award to Ms. Edwards at their April meeting.
DDSN State Director Dr. Eugene A. Laurent said, “Ms. Edward’s performance at Pee Dee Center has been exceptional for more than 13 years. Her devotion, love and attention to the consumers in her care make her a great asset to the center and the agency.”
Leon Owens, Pee Dee Regional Center Administrator, also praised Ms. Edward’s performance. “Through her motivation and creativity, she initiates decorating projects to enthusiastically engage consumers in appropriate and enjoyable activities and creates program materials with her own time and resources,” he said.
Edwards is a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Marion and is pursuing a degree in medical laboratory technology at Florence Darlington Technical College.
