MYRTLE BEACH (AP) -- A man who was aboard the plane that made a splash landing in the Hudson River has found himself at the site of another crisis: wildfires near Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Jeff Kolodjay of Norwalk, Conn., says he's not taking the blaze or crash as bad omens. The fire that's scorched 15,000 acres is several miles north of Kolodjay, who says he and his golfing buddies can only see smoke in the distance.
Kolodjay and his friends were heading to Myrtle Beach when US Airways Flight 1549 ditched in January. Everyone survived.
This time, the friends drove to Myrtle Beach. They arrived Wednesday for a few rounds of golf as part of a free trip offered by a sympathetic resort.
Kolodjay can prove he's unfazed by nearby calamity. He says he shot a 70 on Thursday morning.
