Monique Godfrey
MarionMonique Godfrey, 24, died on March 25, 2009. Born in Atlantic City, N.J., she was the daughter of Joann Dewitt and George Godfrey.
She attended the schools of Somers Point, N.J., and graduated from Marion High School in 2002. She was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church near Atlantic City. A funeral was directed by Jackson & McGill on March 30, 2009 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church of Penderboro, with Pastor A.C. Robinson officiating. Interment was at Devotion Gardens.


E.B. Gerald
Mullins – E.B. “Giant” Gerald was born on Aug. 1, 1922 in Marion County. He was the last surviving child of the late Charlie and Emma Gerald. He was converted at an early age and joined Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where a funeral was directed by Jackson & McGill on Palm Sunday, 2009.
Pastor A.C. Robinson officiated. Interment was at the Pleasant Grove Church Cemetery. Mr. Gerald worked as a mechanic for the H. Wade Collins Store until his retirement. He was married to the late Martha Legette and they were the parents of Annie Mae Isreal of Marion, Debra Gerald of Mullins and the late Betty Jean Gerald James.

Crystal Cross
Marion - Crystal Re'nee Cross, 26, died on April 1, 2009 in Marion County Medical Center. "Pip," as she was affectionately known, was the daughter of Larry Cross and Brenda Banks of Marion. She attended Terrell's Bay High School at Centenary and was a former member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, where a funeral was directed by Jackson & McGill on April 7, 2009.
She was a member of Weeping Willow Baptist Church and Pastor Johnny Davis was the eulogist. She lived for some time in Columbia and moved back to Marion in January 2009.
She is survived by her sisters and brothers, Raven Banks of Columbia; Larry Latron Cross of Ft. Bragg, N.C.; Renata Cross; Shawanda Potts; Rebecca Brantley; Danisha Williamson; Gavin Cross; Brandon Banks; David Banks; and Edward Cross, all of Marion. Interment was at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

Lepoleon Moore
Marion – Lepoleon “Lee” Moore, 64, died on April 2, 2009. He was a native of Britton’s Neck and was the first-born child of the late Menus and Caretha Moore.
After graduation from high school, he settled in New York, where he met and married Della Ann Ellison. They were the parents of Yolanda and Bernard Moore, both of Marion. Lee settled in York, Penn., where he lived for many decades and was employed by BAE System of York, Penn.
He is survived by his son, Napoleon Snellings of York, Penn. A funeral was directed by Jackson & McGill on April 9, 2009 at Bethel AME Church of Britton’s Neck, where the Rev. R.L. Brown is pastor. The Rev. Frederick Graves was eulogist. Interment was at Old Neck Cemetery.

Belle Briggs
Marion – Belle Staggers Briggs was born on June 11, 1911 in Manning to the late Julius and Flora Bell Staggers. She accepted Christ at an early age and joined Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church, where a funeral was directed by Jackson & McGill on Good Friday 2009, with Pastor Henry McGill Jr. officiating.
Interment was at Devotion Gardens. She was the widow of Richard Briggs and they were the parents of Flora Bell, Arnetha Isreal, and Sarah Wilson. She is also survived by her sister Daisy Hazel of Newport News, Va.

Maceo Augustus Shaw
Mullins – Maceo Augustus Shaw, 74, of Mullins, died Easter Sunday, April 12, 2009 in Carriage Hill Health & Rehab Center, Fredericksburg. Va. Mr. Shaw was an educator and a U.S. Army veteran. Survivors include his wife, Joyce Shaw; four daughters, Vanessa Collins, Annette Nowlin, Donna Shaw and Tonia Reaves; and numerous loving relatives and friends.
A memorial service was on April 18 at Ebenezer A.M.E. Church in Mullins.

Gloria Lee Terwilliger
Marion – Gloria Lee Terwilliger died April 10, 2009 in home after an illness. A funeral was at 4 p.m. on April 16 at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness.
Ms. Terwilliger was born in Clarion, Penn., a daughter of the late Paul and Freda Lee. She was a school librarian for Mullins Jr. High School for 21 years and held a Masters of Library Science from Clarion University. She was also a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Surviving are sons Ben Terwilliger and his wife Emma of Ft. Bragg, N.C., Barry Terwilliger and his wife Glenivee of Paris Island, Jeff Terwilliger and his wife April of Florence; daughters, Susan Terwilliger of Portland, Ore., and Laurie Kifer of Rimersburg, Penn.; a brother, Fred Lee and his wife Sandy of Erie, Penn.; and eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
