»  Comments | Post a Comment

A newcomer will join Bennettsville City Council in District 3, according to the unofficial results of Tuesday’s city election.

Larry Pelham won the seat by a landslide with 239 votes. Challenger Teresa Helton Hood had 77 votes and incumbent John Jackson gathered 54 votes.

Sandy Donaldson, the incumbent from District 1, reclaimed theseat with 80 votes. Her opponent, Wanda Williams, had 74 votes.

Marlboro County Office of Voter Registration Deputy Director Christy Hagan said the results are unofficial until the city certifies the totals Thursday.

“When you’ve got three running, like in District 3, there’s a runoff,” she said. “But since (Pelham) got more than 50 percent of the votes, there’ll be no runoff.”
