The Marion City Council will have its monthly meeting Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in City Hall, even though city elections will not end before 7 p.m.
City council members will read and present a resolution for the Marion High School Lady Foxes varsity basketball team and a resolution for Fair Housing Month. Vermelle Simmons is expected to speak about the upcoming census and Larry Mattox of VC3 will make a presentation regarding the city’s Web site. According to its Web site, VC3 is an information technology service organization that provides internet and wireless services.
Johnny Mason from IST2 Integrated is expected to make a presentation regarding a citywide surveillance system; Mariel Ford has requested to appear before council regarding taxicab service and Janell Davis is expected to appear before council to address city recreation department policies.
Other items on the agenda include the “accountability of city officials,” administrator’s report, draft graffiti ordinance, Municipal Judge appointment update; departmental reports; comments from Council members and information and comments from acting Mayor Bobby Davis. If needed, an executive session is on the agenda.
Rodney Berry and Nancy Harrelson are seeking the Mayor's seat and incumbent City Council Member Ronald Davis is facing Betsey Atkinson for his District 3 seat. Seats on council held by Poiette McGill-Bromell and Michael Baker, districts 5 and 6, respectively, are uncontested. City polls are open from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. in the non-partisan election.
