GEORGETOWN -- A Georgetown County Detention Center officer was charged with assault and battery following an incident with an inmate and a Taser.
Dondiedra Anderson, 22, was charged after a Georgetown County's Sheriff's Office investigation.
The investigation began March 26 after a Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office employee who witnessed the March 24 incident reported it to officials.
That afternoon, an inmate in the booking section of the detention center was beating on the door, said she needed to use the restroom and that the toilet in the cell was broken, Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Neil Johnson wrote in a release.
“Anderson opened the cell, removed the inmate and went into the cell to access the situation. While in the cell, the inmate closed the cell door, locking Anderson in the cell,” Johnson wrote.
“When to door was opened by another correctional officer, Anderson exited the cell, grabbed the inmate and tased her while holding the inmate,” Johnson wrote.
Anderson, who had worked for a year and a half at the detention center, was fired after an internal investigation found “the Taser device was not used in accordance to policy and her actions were unlawful,” Johnson wrote.
Anderson turned herself in and was arrested at the sheriff’s office.
