Caylee Levy was crowned Miss Maroon and Gold 2008 on Sept. 19 at Fox Field during half time of the Marion versus Lamar football game.
Levy raised over $3,400 for the athletic-scholarship fund at Marion High School by selling Booster Club all-season tickets. She was escorted by Sam Maddox, crowned by last year’s queen, Brittany Bynum, and presented a bouquet of red roses and a $750 college scholarship by Booster Club president Cindy Turner and Marion High School principal Alfred McFadden.
First runner-up for the evening event, receiving a $400 scholarship was Lindsey Skipper, escorted by Christopher Brown; second runner-up, receiving a $250 scholarship, was Shanya Rozier, escorted by Lacey Owens; and third runner-up, receiving a $200 scholarship was Martina Green, escorted by Jeremy Conner.
Other contestants were Meagan Dewitt, escorted by Joey Sanders; Ashley Hardee, escorted by Dipon Patel; and Brandi Hood, escorted by Will Dixon. Turner said “We are most proud of all the Miss Maroon and Gold contestants for taking on this most worthy task. The young ladies raised an awesome total of over $10,350 for the athletic-scholarship fund at Marion High School. The Booster Club would like to thank everyone who supported the Swamp Fox ticket drive and we appreciate the community’s help in Swamp Fox Booster Club activities.”
Levy is the daughter of Charlie and Anna Levy and James and Candice Huggins and is an active two-year member of the yearbook staff. This year, she is serving as business manager. She has been a member of the Interact club for three years where she is serving as vice-president. Levy is also active in the MHS sporting arena, as she played soccer for three years and volleyball for two years.
Levy has worked with raising money for Easterling Annex and participates in the Adopt-a-Highway clean-up program in Marion. She has also initiated a reading and writing club with young children that she calls “It’s a Write Up.” Levy is a member of First United Methodist Church and is an active member of their youth group.
