Leaders attend First Steps training

Marion County First Steps sponsored childcare training for local providers in August and September. The three-hour training in August was at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Starting at 9 a.m. and ending at noon, Debra Hayes, the training instructor, presented information on What Infants Need to 33 childcare providers.
The attendees represented Little Promises Daycare, Emanuel’s Daycare, Pleasant Grove Academy and Troy Johnson’s Learning Korner. All participants received three DSS credit hours and more knowledge about caring for infants.
Reeshemah Harrison, program coordinator for Marion County First Steps, said she was delighted to see the number of people who attended the training. “Childcare providers sacrificing their time to attend a training on a holiday weekend truly shows the level of commitment providers have to serving children in Marion County.”
An additional half-day of training was done in Marion on Sept. 27 in the First Steps office at 1001 E. Liberty Street. The topic was signs and symptoms of child abuse. Participants received three DSS credit hours for that training as well.
