Darlington native dies in east Georgia shooting

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Authorities have arrested a suspect in the shooting death of a Darlington native who had recently moved to Stillmore, in the eastern part of Georgia.

Jeffrey Kip Harper Sr., 41, died Saturday of an apparent gunshot wound to his chest, according to the Emanuel County (Ga.) Sheriff’s Office.

Kevin Shane Sutton, 36, of Stillmore, Ga., was arrested about 6 a.m. Sunday and charged with murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Investigators say that after the shooting, Sutton ran away with a shotgun before someone drove him east to Metter, Ga., where he was captured near Interstate 16 with the help of tracking dogs.

Deputies also think a weapon recovered near Metter was used in the slaying.

Sutton remains in jail without bond.

Stillmore is about 75 miles west of Savannah, Ga.
