Suspect sought in Kingstree bank robbery

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Kingstree police are searching for a man who walked into a bank Friday and demanded $20,000, Kingstree Police Chief Robert Ford said.

The crime happened about 3:30 p.m. at the Kingstree Federal Savings and Loan on Mill Street. A man walked in and handed the teller a note that said he wanted $20,000. The teller explained to the suspect that they didn’t have that kind of money, Ford said.

The suspect responded, “Give me what you have or I’ll start shooting,” Ford said.

The teller cooperated and the suspect ran from the bank. No one was injured during the crime, Ford said.

The suspect is described as a black man about 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing about 170 pounds. He was last seen wearing a light blue baseball cap and dark clothing.

Anyone with information is asked to call the police department at (843) 355-5435 or Crime Stoppers of the Pee Dee at (843) 667-TIPS (8477) or (866) 369-TIPS (8477). Callers need not reveal their identities.
