A Florence husband and wife were arrested Thursday night after deputies said the couple and their accomplice tried to sell a stolen vehicle, Florence County Sheriff’s Lt. Brett Camp said.
Jason Dwaine Lewellen, 33, of 2031 1/2 Firetower Road and Shannon Bennett Lewellen, 39, of 7968 1/2 Friendfield Road and Johnnie Mitchell Elliott are each charged with possession of a stolen vehicle value at $5,000 or more, Camp said.
Shannon Lewellen also faces a charge of obtaining a signature or property under false pretenses, he said.
Booking information for Elliott was not found in the Florence County Detention bookings reports.
Deputies said the trio went to a recycling facility on Ashby Road in Florence on Thursday and tried to sell a vehicle stolen from Darlington County, Camp said.
The female suspect gave an employee false information and signed the paperwork for the transaction, he said.
The suspects were in the process of selling the car when deputies arrived and took the husband and wife into custody.
The third suspect was arrested several hours later after a brief search, Camp said.
Jason Lewellen remains in custody at the Florence County jail under a $3,000 surety bond while Shannon Lewellen remains in custody under a $5,000 surety bond.
