The Darlington County Humane Society is in desperate need of funds to purchase vaccines and medical supplies for the rest of this year.
The humane society doesn’t have the money needed to purchase vaccines or medical supplies because of transporting animals to rescue organizations up North and the rising costs of food, vaccines and other items. Food supplies are even in jeopardy.
The humane society has an initial goal of raising $2,000. Donations are tax-deductible.
“The animals are in desperate need and, if not vaccinated, they will get sick,” Kim Hanna of the Darlington County Humane Society said. “Parvo and distemper in particular are a real threat to their health. Several have died or have had to be put to sleep due to contracting these diseases. Please help purchase vaccines to give the animals a chance at being adopted out or going to a rescue.”
The e-mail for people with questions about the medical supply crisis is raindoggies@live.com. And the telephone number for the humane society is (843) 398-4402. The animal shelter is located on Animal Control Lane, off S.C. 151 between the new Darlington Middle School and the Darlington County Water and Sewer Authority.
The Humane Society will hold a community meeting on Sunday, Sept. 28, at 3 p.m. at the Swift Creek Fire Department.
