Sept. 16 was a sad day for the Pee Dee. On the heels of a well-publicized ground breaking ceremony for Heinz Co., it was announced that Wellman is closing plants in Darlington and Johnsonville. This is just one small part of the economic crisis going on in our country today.
Unemployment rates and inflation rates are growing. Wages are stagnant. The housing crisis daily takes up front page space in newspapers across the country. Health insurance is completely unaffordable for millions. However, according to Sen. John McCain, the “fundamentals of our economy are strong.” Could a person be more removed from the problems that you and I face every day?
I would like to remind everyone of the prosperous economy we enjoyed under the Clinton Administration. Since George W. Bush took office, our economy has gone downhill faster and faster. Sen. McCain votes with President Bush over 95 percent of the time when it comes to economic policies. Sen. McCain has been trying to capture Sen. Barack Obama’s change message. I’m not going to be fooled.
Sen. Obama has real solutions for real people.
Ninety-five percent of working Americans will see a tax cut under his plan.
Sen. Obama and Sen. Joe Biden will create the change American families so desperately need.
I’d also like to take this opportunity to dispel some of the Internet rumors about Sen. Obama.
Stop believing everything you read in an e-mail forwarded to you.
Sen. Obama is not a Muslim, nor a terrorist. He says the Pledge of Allegiance with his hand over his heart. He was sworn into the Illinois State Senate and the U.S. Senate on the Holy Bible.
He will not advocate the killing of babies that survive abortion procedures, nor will he advocate abortions after the first trimester.
The next time you get one of these ugly e-mails, check www.factcheck.org, a non-partisan Web site, about its authenticity before passing it along.
