19 year old charged in connection with rape

A fifth teen has been arrested in connection with the sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl, Marion police said.

Leroy Garner, 19, turned himself in to police at 9:30 p.m. Monday soon after police identified him as a suspect in the case. He, along with 17-year-old La-Quan Hyman, a 16-year-old and two 15-year-olds, are all charged with criminal sexual conduct with a minor under the age of 16, Marion Police Lt. Farmer Blue said.

The charges stem from an incident that happened Sept. 9 at a home on Rosewood Avenue. The victim’s father walked in and saw the victim in her room with the suspects.

Some allegations have been made by the victim’s family, Blue said in a previous interview.

Garner is in custody at the Marion County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.

Hyman and the 16-year-old also remain in custody at the jail under a $75,000 surety bond, Blue said.

The two 15-year-olds remain in custody at the S.C. Department of Juvenile Justice in Columbia, Blue said.
