LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Election season brings new political language

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Election season is in the home stretch, so it is time for our first review on modern political language.

Affordable: As in health care and housing) — A good catchword.

It means we can afford it if somebody else pays for it.

Universal Health Care: Anyway you cut it, this means socialized medicine, which will lead to rationing supervised by bureaucrats like they have in England and Canada and Cuba (see Michael Moore).

Comprehensive Immigration Reform: This means amnesty for uncounted millions of foreign trespassers. Sops have been offered: fines will be paid (with a new bureaucracy created to collect or not collect them), and they will learn English, or not, but surely at taxpayer expense. Sadly, both presidential candidates are ready to sell us out on this issue.

Under funded: The word to watch in the field of education; this means the bureaucrats have spent all their funds on more bureaucrats and 22nd Century technology and now they need funds to hire teachers and repair buildings. (In S.C. see Corridor of Blame).

Negative Campaigning: This means your guy is making unflattering statements (True or otherwise. Relevant or not.) about my candidate. Note that the charge most often comes when candidate A responds to a slur from candidate B. Pollsters say the public doesn’t like it, but they have been wrong before.

Bi-Partisan (reaching across the aisle): This means sellout, as in McCain-Fiengold, McCain-Kennedy, Gang of Fourteen.

And it usually means purported conservatives have caved in to the liberals.

Change: This means what either candidate says it means — at the moment.

Carbon Credits: Since we have all this “consensus” on global warming (30 years ago it was global cooling), a few smooth talkers may as well make a few bucks.
