A Florence man was arrested Tuesday after police said he stabbed another man in the back, Florence Police Lt. James Rodgers said.
Gerard Vincent Williams,23, of 1005 E. Royal St. is charged with assault and battery with intent to kill and first-offense criminal domestic violence, Florence County Detention Center bookings reports show.
The incident happened Tuesday at about 9:30 a.m. at Mount Zion Apartments, Rodgers said.
Witnesses told police the suspect punched a woman in the back of the head during an argument. Another witness apparently tried to intervene but he, too, was punched from behind by the suspect and stabbed in the back, Rodgers said.
The suspect was later found at a north Florence home and taken into custody.
It’s unclear whether the stabbing victim sought medical attention for his injuries, Rodgers said.
Williams remains in custody at the jail in Effingham on a $5,000 surety bond and a $25,000 surety bond.
