Palmetto Middle School cheerleader Tammy White is living in a “cheerocracy,” constantly involved with her squad and practicing hard.
The Bulldog cheerleaders took part in a four-day camp at Myrtle Beach and were the only middle school represented. The squad attended the UCA Summer Cheerleading camp in early August at the Springmaid Resort. White was named All-Star cheerleader during the event and has the opportunity to participate in Disney’s Thanksgiving Tour in Orlando. “I was so happy and overjoyed that they called my name from the only middle school out there,” she said.
“As a result, she has an opportunity to interact with girls from across the country,” Bulldog cheerleading coach Ella Ford said of White’s selection. Ford said there were approximately 25 other cheerleading squads from various states, including North Carolina, Virginia and Tennessee. “The girls learned how to pull together and work as a squad as well as improve their cheerleading skills,” Ford said. She thanked the members of the South Florence Bruins cheerleading squad for befriending the middle school students and “adopting” them while participating in camp.
As for the All-Star eighth grader, White said she is ready to make the trip to Florida to participate in the nationally televised Thanksgiving parade. She got her start in cheerleading, rooting for recreation football teams, she said, adding that it began with her simply wanting a trophy like other family members.
“I got better and better at it … I have been cheering for a few years now and I’m going to keep cheering on and on,” she said. White said her family and coach are a big help. The Bulldog Cheerleading squad returned from camp with two trophies for “most improved” and “superior chant, cheer, and dance.”
“All my cheerleaders, my friends, I love them, and I give my thanks to them as well as my coach and my mom,” White said. Ford said White is an excellent cheerleader who is dedicated, missing out on a trip to Disney World with her church in order to join the squad during camp.
Tammy White’s opportunity to participate in the Disney parade will require payment and deposits are needed as early as this month. Anyone interested in helping her and her family with the travel expenses can contact Palmetto Middle School Athletic Department, at 305 O'Neal Street, Mullins, 29574 or call (843) 464-3730.
