»  Comments | Post a Comment

A Florence woman has died following a two-car collision at U.S. 52 and McLaughlin Road, south of Florence, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol.

Kyra Merlene Wiggins, 75, died at a local hospital about 10:15 p.m. Sunday, about an hour after the crash, Florence County Coroner M.G. “Bubba” Matthews said.

Wiggins was driving a Toyota car when she pulled in front of a sport utility vehicle traveling south on U.S. 52, according to highway patrol reports. She wasn’t wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision, according to the highway patrol.

Medics also took the driver of the SUV, who was wearing a seat belt, to a local hospital. No information was available about the passenger in the SUV.

The highway patrol says it will file no charges because the deceased driver was found at fault, but the agency continues to investigate the collision.
