A Timmonsville man found himself under arrest Thursday after authorities said he knocked on neighbor’s door, told them he was a police officer and then pulled out a knife, Timmonsville Police Detective Maurice Caldwell said.
Clifton Piggie, 53, of 109 Brockington St., is charged with armed robbery, impersonating an officer and resisting arrest, Florence County Detention Center bookings reports show.
The incident happened at 9:50 p.m. at 101 N. Brockington St., Caldwell said.
The suspect knocked at his neighbor’s door and told him he was “the police,” the detective said.
When the neighbor opened the door, the suspect pulled out a knife and forced his way in.
The suspect then told the victim “he wasn’t leaving until he got something,” Caldwell said.
The suspect chased the victim to another neighbor’s house, where the victim ran inside and closed the door behind him.
Police arrived about two minutes later and saw the suspect strolling away from the scene as if nothing happened, Caldwell said.
Police called to the suspect to stop, but the suspect kept walking. He was arrested after a brief struggle, Caldwell said.
No one was injured during the crime, the detective said.
Piggie remained in custody at the jail in Effingham at press time awaiting a bond hearing.
