A Florence man featured on the television show “America’s Most Wanted” has been acquitted of murder, 12th Circuit Solicitor Ed Clements III said.
Edward Jamele Windham, 27, of 1024 E. Candy Lane in Florence was wanted on Florence County warrants for murder, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon and possession of a weapon during a violent crime in the May 28, 2006, slaying of 22-year-old Robert William Nettles Allen.
Windham also was acquitted of possession of a weapon during a violent crime, but convicted of possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, Clements said.
The jury ruled that the case was one of self-defense, Clements said. Allen was shot and killed by a single gunshot wound to the chest on Candy Lane, in the Tara Village subdivision off Howe Springs Road.
Windham was sentenced to five years in prison on the charge for which he was convicted in connection with this case, plus three years in prison for a probation violation, Clements said. The sentences will run consecutively.
Windham’s profile was featured on the July 8, 2006, episode of “America’s Most Wanted,” which airs on the Fox television network.Authorities received information as a result of the show that led to Windham’s arrest July 18, 2006, at a relative’s home in Hephzibah, Ga., southwest of Augusta, Ga.
