Company thanks fundraiser participants

Dear Editor,
In spite of the current decline in economic activities, AVM Industries still is committed to being a good corporate citizen. This was evidenced by the company’s involvement on Aug. 23 at the AVM Ride For Life Poker Run. AVM Industries is a strong supporter of the Relay For Life and the Poker Run is one of many fund raising activities the company does to help raise money for cancer research. The AVM Ride For Life Poker Run was a huge success with approximately 325 bikes participating and 450 people in attendance. The event raised $8,000 which will be donated to Relay For Life.
We would like to thank the community for helping make the Poker Run a success and a special thanks goes to the AVM Industries Committee members who worked diligently to have a well planned and fun event. It wouldn’t have been possible without the support of our local Marion and Horry county sponsors as well as those from North Carolina. Last, but certainly not least, a very special thanks goes to the owners of the Carolina Entertainment Complex for allowing the Poker Run to be held on its premises, along with all the additional publicity that they provided to the local media.
On behalf of everyone at AVM Industries, thanks to all who participated in the AVM Ride For Life Poker Run!
Sincerely,
Kimberly T. Davis

Writer says Elliott has served well

Dear Editor,
Sen. Dick Elliott has done an exceptional job in fulfilling our community needs. I am a native and have lived here for over 60 years and can honestly say I feel that he has brought astonishing changes to our community since he became senator in 1992. Sen. Elliott cares about the people of South Carolina ... understands the needs of each community ... and knows what people need because he is willing to listen to the needs of those around him.
I have grandchildren in the public schools and I know that he is fighting to improve our schools. He devotes his time to the Horry County School Board and wants what is best for our children. He was a sponsor of the Education Improvement Act, one of the most highly acclaimed pieces of state education legislation in South Carolina history ... an advocate for senior citizens ...
It is my belief that Sen. Elliott is a firm believer that our government belongs to the people. People have a right to know what is going on in government and he keeps us knowledgeable on what he is doing for our community. Sen. Elliott can work across party lines in a respectable manner to get things done.
I have never been that involved in politics. I feel most of the time people are telling you one thing to get elected and then they do something else. I can honestly say that I do not feel this way about Dick Elliott ... He serves all well.
Cecil Suggs
