KINGSTREE- Williamsburg County Disaster Preparedness Agency will soon step up to OPCON stage three, and possibly later to stage 2. “We are watching to see what Georgetown County does, and we will piggyback on that,” says Director Tiffany Cook. “Both counties are closely related and will experience similar conditions.”
“Right now we are looking for anyone with special needs, or medical needs that depends on electric power. We are asking residents to call before the storm to notify of any special needs persons in their homes. We are partnering with Drucker’s to have a reserve of needed medical supplies.”
“A call center has been established to receive non-emergency calls, at 354-7218, 354-7408, or 354-3860. These lines will be manned for 24 hours shifts until the emergency passes. Please reserve the emergency 911 number for life-threatening emergencies,” she requested. “The call center is for calls about power outages and other reports and questions.”
The emergency operations center will be opened at 5 p.m. on Friday and kept open for as long as it takes.
“We don’t expect Hanna to be a major disaster,” she said. “But this is a good practice run," she added, pointing to the row of storms that are expected to follow.
