A Hartsville man died Wednesday after the car he was driving was hit by a truck near the Chesterfield County line, Darlington County Coroner Todd Hardee said.
John H. Lee Jr., 66, was pronounced dead at the scene of injuries he suffered during the crash, Hardee said.
The crash happened at about 10:25 a.m. on S.C. 151, S.C. Highway Patrol reports show.
Lee was traveling east on Substation Road in a 1999 Ford Taurus when troopers say he disregarded a stop sign and was struck by a Vocational Rehabilitation of South Carolina box truck traveling south on S.C. 151.
A female passenger in Lee’s vehicle was airlifted to an area hospital, but her status wasn’t known by press time Thursday. Troopers aren’t sure if she was wearing a seat belt.
Lee wasn't wearing a seat belt.
The driver of the box truck was wearing a seat belt and wasn’t injured in the crash.
The crash remains under investigation by the Highway Patrol.
