Parent volunteer organizations and other nonprofits have the opportunity to raise money for their schools or charities in exchange for local business reviews through an online consumer review Web site, www.palmettobizzbuzz.com.
Ward Lassoe, president of the Web site, said the company has launched the statewide “Give Back” campaign in an effort to help local Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) and charities raise money. In turn, his Web site will gain more reviews of local businesses.
“We see it as a win-win (situation) for both,” Lassoe said. “We get the reviews we need and then the charities, the PTAs and the nonprofits get some extra funding.
“The PTAs are always looking for ways to raise money for their schools,” he said. “This is really such an easy way to raise up to a $1,000 for your PTA.”
Nonprofit organizations will receive at least $1 for every review that a supporter posts, earning a maximum donation of $1,000. Reviews in certain business categories are now eligible for a $2 donation. Those categories include: attorneys; auto glass repair shops; blinds and shades; fencing supplies and sales; flooring service and installation; interior designers; mattress shops; retirement homes; tree services; and Web site design.
In total, Palmettobizbuzz.com plans to donate $60,000 to nonprofit organizations across the state, Lassoe said.
To participate in the program, local nonprofits must complete a registration form. The program is open to all tax-exempt charitable nonprofit organizations that hold a 501(c)(3) status.
Each time consumers post a review of a local business, they have the opportunity to choose which organization will receive their donation. Reviews must be completed by Sept. 30 to be eligible for the program.
Reviews of national chain stores will not earn donations.
Participating nonprofit organizations and PTAs will receive their donations at the end of the program. Organizations must earn a minimum of $50 before the conclusion of the program in order receive their donation.
Organizations that are either religious or political in nature are not eligible, including those groups focused primarily on lobbying for political or policy change, according to the rules posted on the Web site.
This is the second phase of the campaign, Lassoe said, and the deadline was extended in order for more organizations to take advantage of the program.
“There’s no catch,” he said. “You just have to write the review, and we will write the check.”
