Florence County sheriff’s deputies are investigating a high-speed chase that killed a Florence 17-year-old Wednesday night.

Ronnie Aaron Kelly was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:41 p.m. Wednesday of multiple body trauma, Florence County Coroner M.G. “Bubba” Matthews said.

The crash happened at the Douglas Street Extension at Ashby Road in Florence.

Matthews said the driver of a 2008 Chrysler with Florida tags carrying three passengers ran off the right side of the Douglas Street Extension.

According to S.C. Highway Patrol reports, the driver of the Chrysler ran a stop sign. When troopers tried to stop it, the driver kept going. Troopers chased the car and the driver drove into a tree.

Kelly was a passenger on the right side of the car, Matthews said.
