FLORENCE — Voters should know the truth regarding myths about the identification required to cast a ballot in South Carolina as well as straight-party voting, S.C. Rep. Terry Alexander of Florence said.
“What we do not want to do is discourage people from voting in one of the most historic elections this nation has seen,” Alexander said Wednesday at the Florence County Voter Registration office.
In order to cast a ballot, he said, voters can present a voter registration card, a driver’s license or an ID card issued by the S.C. Department of Motor Vehicles.
Alexander also said a false chain e-mail is circulating that says straight-party voting doesn’t apply to the presidential election. Straight-party voting applies to all partisan offices on a ballot, and voters can verify their choices for individual offices before they finish voting.
In addition, voters wearing a T-shirt endorsing a candidate won’t be turned away from voting, but must remove the campaign material or “cause the material not to be seen.”
