Members of Chesterfield County School Board of Trustees recently approved extending Dr. John E. Williams’ contract as superintendent through June 30, 2011.
“I am pleased to announce that the board wishes to commend Dr. (John) Williams for a positive evaluation,” board chairman Chad Vick said in a press release issued by the school district. “The board believes he is doing a good job for our school system and our communities. We are proud to have Dr. Williams serve as the leader of schools in our county.”
During a called meeting on Monday, the board met in executive session to discuss Williams’ contract.
In open session, the board voted 6-1 to extend Williams’ contract. His annual salary is set at $132,5000, according to the release.
Board member Wesley Miles said in a telephone interview Friday that he voted against the motion not because he was against extending Williams’ contract, but because of the stipulations outlined in the contract.
“I think he did a good job,” Miles said. “Extending his contract is fine, but there’s a limit on the amount of money I would go to (given the financial state of the economy).”
Board members Dr. James Williamson and Linda B. Frasier weren’t present for the meeting.
The board conducted an annual evaluation, which included both oral and written comments, as well as discussions with Williams regarding his 2007-08 performance.
